Bible Notes

With the recovery of the old Bible Notes, some of the more interesting pages I have found on the web these past two years are once more readily accessible through the links I have posted. Below are some of the more important:

  • The Questions and Answers Genre in Mark, is an article written by Jerome Neyrey, one of the more important bible scholars in this century. The article describes the "chreia", the questions and answers genre as it is used in Mark. Those disputes that Jesus had with the scribes and Pharisees have their own point. These showed that Jesus is a veritable wise man that can be consulted about the more important issues in life.
  • Who Is George Lamsa? is a blog I posted about the man whose work has become a standard in the proselytism of Manalo's Iglesya ni Kristo. Without his translation, the INK cannot prove that the name "Iglesya ni Kristo" is in the Bible. The article I link to from this blog is a report of what Bruce Metzger, a well-respected and quite famous textual critique and biblical scholar about Lamsa himself.
  • How The Cults Are Twisting The Scriptures is another blog post that links to a summary of how cults and sects like the Iglesya ni Kristo, ADD, Kingdom of Jesus Christ, some (if not all) Born Again communities make use of the Scriptures to prove their own assumptions. It is linked to an apologetics website that also contains other materials as well.
  • Bible places like the Pool of Siloam with a link to more pictures from websites that publish pictures of the holy land.
  • A blog post about "the Aqedah" that links to an article by Joseph Fitzmyer appearing at the website of Biblica, the partial online journal of the Pontifical Biblical Institute
