The main text for his reflection is found in a post called "I Am The Good Shepherd".
1. The Lord transfers to himself the name of God "I Am" (cf. Jn. 6:20;13:19). Here he adds another substantive phrase to show what "I Am" means for you: I am the Good Shepherd
Take up Psalm 23 and reflect on the passage that reads:
Even though I walk through the valley of darkness
I fear no evil
Your rod and your staff
they comfort me.
2. "The Good Shepherd lays down his life for his sheep." The Lord does not die for his sheep because He is weak. He can take up his life again. His care for his sheep is done within the context of the Paschal mystery -- his dying and rising to life.
In the sacraments and the liturgy, the Good Shepherd continues to give life to his sheep. How do you value the sacraments and the liturgy in your own life?
3. Every shepherd in the Church is a sacramental image of the Good Shepherd. Do you pray personally for your bishop and parish priest that they too may become like the Good Shepherd?
