The reading for the 22nd Sunday Year C presents Jesus in a dinner setting. This is the only time in Luke where Jesus' subject matter is the behavior of guests and hosts. What is the relationship of his advises about good behavior at the dining table to his overall teachings on the kingdom? 1. Luke presents Jesus invited by Pharisees to a dinner. As an exercise, try to go through the Gospel of Luke and see those instances where Jesus dines with Pharisees. What does he tell them? What does he do in those settings?
2. The saying "Those who humble themselves shall be exalted; those who exalt themselves shall be humbled" can mean different things when taken out of context. In this context, what does it mean?
- Read the same saying in Luke 18:9-14. What does it mean there?
