1. The solemnity of the Holy Trinity reminds us that the whole of salvation history and the salvation of the Christian is the work of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Reflect Every Sunday, we express our belief in the Trinity through the Apostles' Creed. We say: "I believe in God, the Father ... in Jesus Christ His Only Son Our Lord,... I believe in the Holy Spirit..." God's revelation of Himself as Triune is also a revelation that He wants communion and community. The Church, the Father's creation, the Son's bride and the Spirit's temple is an icon of the Trinity in its life of communion. What features of your community of faith make it an icon of the Trinity? Your own household is meant to be a cell of the bigger community of faith. How is it an image of the Trinity?
2. The conversation of Jesus with Nicodemus in John 3 refers on the one hand to being born in the Spirit, and on the other, the love of God that makes it possible for anyone who believes in the Son.
Reflect. In baptism you were born in the Spirit and made a sharer in the life of the Trinity. What does this mean for you? How do you make this reality about you an integral element of your self-knowledge.
3. The love of God was revealed in a special way on the cross. There, the Father gave His Son to the world, and the Son cooperated with the Father in His work. It was also from the cross that the Son handed over His Spirit so as to renew the world.
Reflect. We were consecrated to the Trinity by the sign of the cross. Popular religiosity and even the prattling of fundamentalists have taught us to associate certain ideas with the cross that were not originally intended as its meaning. Can you identify these wrong ideas?
